5 Times Roger Taylor Was The KING Of Queen!

Happy Birthday, Roger Taylor!

If you’ve lived under a rock for the last FOREVER, Roger is one quarter of British band Queen. Perhaps one of the greatest bands of all time known for such MASSIVE songs like Don’t Stop Me Now, We Are The Champions & Bohemian Rhapsody. Iconic songs from an iconic band, and Rogers drum parts are the key foundation to what makes those songs exciting to listen to, and exciting to play as a drummer.

So, we’ve gathered together five of Rogers finest drumming moments!

Brian May/Roger Taylor Guitar and Drum Jam – We Are The Champions [2020]

One of the best things to come out of 2020 was this light-hearted jam between two life long friends, playing one of the greatest songs of all time! Roger proves that with age comes wisdom and doesn’t miss a beat…and he’s doing his best Kenny Aronoff impression with those shades!

Bohemian Rhapsody (Live) (HD) – Axl Rose / Elton John / Queen

The ICONIC Bohemian Rhapsody performed by an all-star cast of Elton John, Axl Rose, Brian May, Roger Taylor and others from 1992. This one is actually worth watching twice, once for the legendary cameos and twice for the drum part. Roger is absolutely SOLID here!

Fun fact: This is video evidence of Axl Rose actually being ON TIME for a performance!

Foo Fighters + Roger Taylor – Under Pressure (Super Saturday Night 2019)

It’s one thing to meet your heroes, it’s a whole different thing to perform WITH them. That’s what Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters gets the honour of doing here. Excuse the multiple F-Bombs, but if you were getting the chance to perform with your idol… you’d probably be the same!

Roger Taylor – Live at Wembley 1986

Fancy watching 19 minutes and 34 seconds of Roger in his prime performing four of the most legendary Queen songs of all time? We thought you might. Enjoy!

Queen – Rodger Taylor Drum Solo [Rock Montreal 1981]

When push comes to shove, Roger Taylor can absolutely RIP on stage! Here’s his drum solo from 1981. Absolutely SENSATIONAL!

For many of us, Roger is the reason we picked up the sticks in the first place. He’s a true drumming icon forever etched in rock drumming history!

Roger was my REAL hero out of my fave band Queen. Lovely memories of following them all over this country plus times to California and a few to Europe that was when their only decent frontman singer Freddie was alive though I was only in my teens to start with but I used to book into every hotel they did except Calif where i stayed in my penfriend Denise Branscum who lived just outside San Francisco in a small town called Fremont. We and her equally Queen mad friends used to get together and stay at the posh hotel in San Francisco called the Fairmont where Queen were staying and watch the band’s concerts. That didnt stop me going down to LA by myself either! Denise now lives in a place called Tracy but we lost touch years ago. Id love to have contact with her again but oh no! A thought has just entered my head…..!!

My favourite RMT performance is the drums and vocals in ‘Lets Get Crazy’ off his first solo album ‘Fun In Space’. Great short drum solo, but the outro vocal pre-dates Dave Grohls ‘Monkey Wrench’ outro vocal by some years. Truely blisterring super humand stuff!
