Don't Stop Believin! - Who is Steve Smith?
There are some questions in life that you just shouldn’t ask but we’ve all been there; “How many weeks til you give birth?”, “When are you going to get married”, “Whats the average wingspan of a Swallow?” but one I’ve heard quite a bit recently when discussing our latest clinic announcement is … “Who is Steve Smith?”. Well I’m here to tell you all about the man himself and why this is a clinic NOT to be missed…
Steve Smith as you might have guessed is a drummer. An EXCELLENT drummer at that and his resume only reinforces just how incredible a musician Steve is. As a former student of the Berklee College of Music studying under Alan Dawson and Freddie Gruber to brush up his chops and skills allowing him access to varies different genres and musical styles, recording and touring with a variety of Jazz musicians even starting his on Jazz group, Vital Information. All of these influences and experiences eventually led Steve to a defining moment of his career joining the legendary rock band, Journey (you know, the guys who released the song “Don’t Stop Believin’ and giving every dad in the country a song to tie their tie round their head and slide on their knees with their air guitars). Hold onto that feeeeeeeeeeeeelin!
As I said before, Steve’s resume extends to the likes of Victor Wooten, Dweezil Zappa, Mariah Carey and Brian Adams to name only but a few. His versatility as a musician and his expertise as lead him to be named one of Modern Drummers Top 25 Drummers of All Time and being voted into the Modern Drummer Hall of Fame. Steve also released his own educational DVD which was voted No.1 Education DVD of the year in 2003, “Steve Smith Drumset Technique – History of the U.S Beat”. Recently Steve along with Journey were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, that’s right folks…we got a Hall of Famer coming to us! We’ve been trying to pin Steve down to do a clinic with us for many years now and we’re so excited that it’s finally happening. Steve will be full of industry insight, Studio techniques, and performance tips and tricks to help musicians of all skill levels in their journey (pardon the pun) to musical progression. This is a clinic NOT to be missed and it all happens on February 20th.
