2018 has been quite a ride. The Beast From The East struck, people lost their minds over Yanny and Laurel, The Avengers met their Endgame, The Royal Wedding got a sequel and Elon Musk confirmed he’s not completely a cyborg by smoking marijuana. It’s been quite the year for us in Drummers Only as well, so I’m rounding out the last blog of 2018 with some of things we did this year. Get your tissues ready folks, we’re talking a trip down memory lane!
It’s been a big year for selling drums. We had the arrival of lots of the new 2018 NAMM goodies such as the Ludwig Raw Brass snare drums, Tama SLP Kits and lots of Zildjian sweetness in the form of their K Sweet (Sweet K?) range. Not only that but we had the arrival of the Ludwig Vistalite Pink, the only one available in the UK and is a thing of beauty. Some in-store exclusive DW Design kits arrived too and didn’t hang around long. Sonor have been and gone with the arrivals of the AQ1 & AQ2 and their beautiful SQ1 kits used by Chris Coleman. Speaking of…
We have some pretty rad artists make an appearance in store this year. Kicking off with Mr Dexter Hercules who was here showcasing all the new Tama, Zildjian & Aquarian gear for 2018. A MONSTER player with a great attitude and had time for everyone. Not long after this saw the arrival of FIVE major artists in the form of our Drummers Only Day Out event. We had the pleasure of welcoming Glasgows own Ali Richardson along with The Drumbassadors, Adam Marcello and Anika Niles on May 27th. If you didn’t make it along, you SERIOUSlY missed out. All the performances were superb and very insightful with approaches from all genres and backrounds. A rhythmic recital with The Drumbassadors, A metal masterclass with Ali Richardson, pop practice with Adam Marcello and CRAZY CHOPS with Anika Niles. We rounded out our clinics with An Evening with Chris Coleman. Chris needs no introduction. Currently on tour with Beck and formally of Chaka Khan, New Kids on the Block, Chris gave an incredible insight not only into how he got to the level he’s at, but the steps he took to get there. He left a ladder for all of us to climb with his teachings and comedic timing. Of course, others have been brief cameo apperances too! Have a look!
It’s been a wild ride for sure. Plenty of new faces entering the shop to get their first kit and shop regulars getting all their needs for gigs, tours and new kits just for the hell of it. For me, I was fortunate enough to join the team in August and have been blown away by such a warm welcoming not only from the DO team, but from all the customers either in store or on the phone. So thank you for accepting me as part of this legendary team! As for 2019, we’ve already got some inside scoops on the year gear arriving in shop and can’t wait to show you all. In the mean time, on behalf of myself and the rest of the guys (and gal) in the shop we wish you a very happy new year and we’ll see you in 2019!!
